Blaauwkrantz is a sweet, smooth-drinking porter with liquorice, caramel, and warm spice citrus notes. Hop character takes a back seat to the dark crystal malts, which are subtly supported by the addition of coriander and orange. Its full-bodied nature and robust alcohol content make this beer and excellent dessert or after dinner beer.

The Blaauwkrantz Bridge, which crosses the Kowie River on the now defunt railway between Grahamstown and Port Alfred, was the site of the infamous railway disaster which killed 31 and injured a further 23. It is said that the location is sacred to the amaXhosa and it was foretold that disaster would follow its construction. A story as dark and tantalising as our beer!
